Named Data Networking (NDN) is a Future Internet Architecture research project and has received a funding of $13.5M from the National Science Foundation (NSF), USA. Prof. Lixia Zhang from the University of California at Los Angeles, along with Prof. Van Jacobson is leading this project. To foster collaborative research in the field of NDN, a consortium of academic institutions and industries has been set up.

Some of the leading universities such as UCLA, UCSD, UIUC, etc and networking corporations like Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Huawei Technologies, Brocade, etc are members of NDN Consortium.

We’re glad to note that NITK Surathkal is now an academic member of the NDN Consortium. The list of members can be found at: http://named-data.net/consortium-members/. To the best of our knowledge and belief, NITK Surathkal is the only academic institution from India to become a member of NDN Consortium.

Dr. Mohit P. Tahiliani, Assistant Professor from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has been coordinating the efforts on NDN at NITK Surathkal. A group of nine B.Tech and M.Tech students have been working with Dr. Mohit on Cache management approaches in NDN, NDN Forwarding Daemon, ndnSIM: network simulator for NDN, Congestion Control and Queue Management in NDN.
